Manage Your Money To Get Out Of Debt

Manage your money to get out of debt is the only way to overcome your current debt problems and avoid slipping into serious debt problems again in the future. There are several steps but first you need to get control of the flow of money coming in, your income, and the money going out, your expenses.

When the bills are coming in faster than you can pay them there is too much money going out and not enough money coming. Imagine your home is like a boat. If it is leaking and the debts are filling it up you must plug the leaks and get rid of the debts that are causing all the leaks.

Did I make that sound confusing? The bottom line is this. If you can’t pay all your debts your home is like a boat with a leak and if nothing is done the boat will sink.

Get Out Of Debt

To get out of debt we must first stabilize the leaks and reduce the imbalance between the money coming in and the bill payments going out. We need to bail the water out of the boat to stop it sinking and then we must bail out the water (the debts) faster than it is getting in. We need to reduce the leak and cut down on the flow of money going out by reducing our spending as much as we can.

Additional Income

Next we should try to increase the money coming in by getting a raise, increasing the hours we work or by getting additional income with an extra job or a different job. To get out of debt we must reduce spending and, if possible, increase our income.

Using Budgeting Software

The best way of tracking your money is by using budgeting software but you can work it out with a pen, paper and a calculator. Budgeting software is an additional expense but it can be an investment to help you to plan your finances for the future.
